Sticking to tradition with hearth-baking

Harvest Bakery is one of the few bakeries in Connecticut that continues to carry on the tradition of hearth-baking our bread and rolls, and we are still using the bread and hard roll recipes that Grandpa Barth originated!

Hearth baking means each loaf of bread or delicious hard roll is placed on a wooden peel and shuffled onto the oven hearth to bake. This method of baking ensures a quality product.

Drop by and try our delicious bread, or pick up a fresh donut to go!

Our bakery has been on the rise and flourishing for over 70 years

Anne and Louis Barth first opened the doors of Harvest Bakery on Memorial Day in 1941.

The bakery was located at 562 North Main Street in Bristol, but it was relocated to its present Farmington Avenue address in 1948.

In 1949, the Barth’s daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Payson Hurwitz, joined the bakery business and in 1979 Marty and Jackie Hurwitz, their son & daughter-in-law, took over the business. After serving the community for over 45 years Marty and Jackie took a well-deserved retirement but the traditions and reputation that have made Harvest Bakery the best bakery in town remain strong.
